How Greenvolt Next Lowers Business Costs with Renewable Energy

Portugal-based GreenVolt Group, a leading international player in the renewable energy sector, has now entered the Romanian distributed generation renewable energy market. Using its Greenvolt Next B2B (business to business) service, the company plans to install 110 MW of solar energy in Romania over the next three years, as part of its multiple-technology business model. We spoke to Filipe Dias, Country Manager of Greenvolt Next Romania, to find out how the company’s distributed generation service can reduce a business’ electricity costs by generating solar energy on-site.

What does Greenvolt Next do?

Filipe Dias: Greenvolt Next offers a fully integrated service, meaning it handles a customer’s design, installation, maintenance, and insurance, while also covering the initial investment.

Once the solar energy starts being generated, the customer can use this via a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) at a fixed price, which is smaller than that offered by the main power grid, regardless of the provider.

Having Greenvolt Next install and manage the solar energy production on your site means you’ll pay between 20 and 25% less than you would while using the grid, which in Romania generally sees companies buying at around €150/MW.

Can you become a prosumer?

Filipe Dias: The customer can also become a prosumer, albeit only up to a point (around 400 kW). Past that value, you would need to find somebody to buy the energy from you. And, in Romania, this can be quite difficult, at least at the moment.

The most streamlined operation we offer is to analyze the consumption of the customer and install exactly as much power as they need. Everything is easily monitored, so you have a unified control interface that allows you to keep track of financials at all times.

On-site solar energy generation

Greenvolt Next’s applications involve rooftop solar panels or solar carport installations that offer shade for parked vehicles while producing electricity.

The Greenvolt Group entered Romania in 2021 through Greenvolt Power, which handles Utility Scale Wind, Solar and Energy Storage projects. Featuring a pipeline that includes 302MW and 75MW in Wind and Solar, respectively, and an active development of batteries globally, Greenvolt Power is a top name in the European market, having won the Polish capacity auction, having been awarded 1.2GW of capacity for six Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
